Including the cost of machine work on my block and heads, balancing, and a used forged crank and the work on it, I spent around $5000. I assembled the engine myself.

Thanks Clint..It seems like I spent 2500 blue printing and balancing that 400..What about a roller cam?  not really familiar with them, but hear a lot of talk about them..I'll keep you posted..I really want to put the 396 back in there..tom
