Be double leery of dealers. They'll tell you anything and accept absolutely no responsibility for it being correct. Unless he has documented proof of the car, like build sheet or POP that matches VIN and shows original engine to be a 396, anything else like 'dealer replaced engine' is worthless IMO.

Talked to the car dealer this morning. According to him car is an orginal SS with matching numbers except for engine. He said he has documentation that the engine was switched under warranty shortly after car was purchased new. I have not heard from any list members in the area of Ball Louisiana so I asked for dealer to give me a reference on credible person to look at car for me. He made a recomendation and I called the guy who seems very knowledeable and is a rep for cars on line inspections. Claims to have been in car business for 30 years and doing this for over 10. He is going there at lunch to inspect the car and then call me. Dealer claims car is a strong 2. Car came from Texas. Thats the latest. Thanks again to everyone for your help. ----- Original Message ----- From: "John Nasta" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To: "The Chevelle Mailing List" <Chevelle-list@chevelles.net> Sent: Friday, March 17, 2006 8:38 AM Subject: Re: [Chevelle-list] Buying 69 Chevelle You should try to find a local person who is known to have some expertise to look at it first, but if I were going to spend that much money on a car, I would go there and see it myself as well. A few hundred bucks for a plane ticket is worthwhile if you are going to spend $20K. They all look nice in pictures. BTW, power steering, power brakes, and A/C are not "rarely found" on these cars. The one I bought last week has all of those options (and the front brakes are disc). No pictures of the trunk (not the nice new carpet, but the metal) or the floorboards (you can shoot into a mirror for those). No mention of whether the engine is original or if it's an original SS car (so it's probably not). -----Original Message----- From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Behalf Of Steve Haines Sent: Friday, March 17, 2006 6:24 AM To: The Chevelle Mailing List Subject: Re: [Chevelle-list] Buying 69 Chevelle If anyone has time I would appreciate some comment or questions regarding the link to the car below. Especially would like to know if anyone in the group is located near where the car is located.
