Title: Re: [Chevelle-list] Trouble with the starter on the 69 Chevelle
I would check the neutral safety switch if the other stuff looks OK...

Always start at the battery. I battery with a bad cell will give you lights and radio. You need to run a load test or take it to Pep Boys or Auto Zone they will do it free right at the counter. Make sure you put a fresh charge on it over night. Hot weather will kill a battery just as quick as cold weather. Did you check the water level?

A member of mine is having problems with his starter??  You guys have any suggestions??  Here's his story........

Morning guys (or gals, depending on who opens this email),

I’m having trouble with the starter on the Chevelle. Last night I went to start the car it wouldn’t start. Turn the key and nothing. No click, no nothing. Everything else works, headlights, radio, interior light, etc. I was able to jump start the car by coasting and letting the clutch out. It took me about twenty-five minutes to get home. I turned the car off once in the garage, then tried starting the car again. The car started without hesitation. This is typical when ever I experience this problem. This might happen twice in a week or it may happen once every couple months. The only consistency is it never seems to happen in cool weather.

I’m considering the following items next,
- by passing the neutral safety switch.
- installing a new ignition switch.

A little history,

This started around three years ago. At that time I had a rebuilt GM high torque starter. I installed a reduction starter from Jeg’s about six weeks ago giving into the heat soak theory with the stock starter and headers. I considered changing the battery cable along with the starter but it looked in perfect shape, no damage or corrosion.

Any ideas or suggestions?????

Thanks in advance!

Donnie
