Is it necessary to be that original on a rebuild?
I've read on a few sites where when one is replacing ones rear gears, one
need NOT utilize the "additive" goo that was specified in the original
build. Detroit Locker doesn't require the goo. There are other builders as
well that do not require the goo.
There are Oils or Synthetics that need not the "additive" goo.
AMSOIL has Lubrication "Oils".
Just for comparison:
There are quite many if not all Class Six, Seven and Eight Truck
manufacturers that use Synthetic "oils" in the Transmissions and the
Differentials because unlike Oil, Synthetic fluid does not wear out as
quickly if at all and the heat potential is Lowered therefore longer rolling
life.
