The hidden CON VINs don't tell much at all. They are in the format of
(depending on year) year, plant, sequence number - they do NOT include the
series or model. For example a 65 CON VIN might read 5A123456.

The 65 VIN plate is on the A-pillar on the driver's side, not on the dash.
The dash mounting didn't start until 1968 so they could be viewed through
the windshield from the outside. Are you sure you're not talking about the
Fisher Body plate (a.k.a. trim tag or cowl tag) that's mounted on the engine
side of the firewall? That'll tell you body date, plant, body number, trim
and paint codes and for some plants, a few options.

Subject: [Chevelle-list] VIN numbers where are they?

I had heard that the VIN numbers on the body are stamped on a few
places. If the plate with stuff that's supposed to show build
information VIN etc. is missing from the dash, where else can I look? I
can get access to underneath. This is for a 65.
Thanks,
Chuck
