becomes obvious when you start test-wrapping the material around the curves of
the panel that this has to be done in order for it to conform. My mom also
sews, quilts, etc. so it was not the first time I had ever heard of the concept.
Anyway, the glue is another story. With any kind of contact cement it's
important to spray both sides and let it dry a few minutes until it's tacky
rather than wet (the Super 77 can says to bond when it is "aggressively
tacky"). Hold the can 6 to 8 inches away, keep it moving and don't spray too
much. If your headliner material is porous it can ooze out the other side and
it is hard to get off.
Maybe it's a symptom of the fact that I park outdoors in all kinds of weather,
but mine fall down at least once a year, meaning that the material separates
from the boards. I have tried 3M Headliner Adhesive as well as Super 77. Maybe
some day I'll just buy the pre-done ones and get it over with.

Going through stuff in my "car room" today, I came across a 2003 OPG
poster-size calendar w/red 1967 SS Convertible that I had framed in a
2'x3' poster frame years ago.
To make room for some 2009 R/T posters that my brothers got me for
Christmas, I'm going to be unframing this guy and I'm not sure if anyone
would be interested in it and I have no idea it's worth. I'll let it go
for a reasonable offer, as it belongs hanging up in some Chevelle guy's
garage!!!
I can send a photo of it!

P.S. Most of the other 68/69 Chevelle stuff I hd has been cleared out but
I still have a few odds & ends left:
- a few 1/64 diecasts (unopened)
- a couple of frameable prints
- a 1/24 scale (unopened) AMT model

I guess I'll farm out that stuff to ebay in the next few weeks when I
have time!

There is no such thing as a good chemical rust
remover. Sandblast it or cut it out and replace it. Naval Jelly
works to a point but will not remove deep pitted rust. Should you decide
to try Naval Jelly, you will need some 000 or 0000 steel wool and some warm
soapy water to neutralize it. Make sure you prime and paint it if it's in
an inconspicuos area. Don't try to apply one of those self claimed rust
converter coatings on it, they don't work.

I have found that if you use the spray on rust converter and let
it sit over night, it will reveal more surface rust. Then it is easier to see
and remove. Duplicolor makes good products.

I should try the brush-on stuff. So far I have been using sprays and
the hold doesn't last.
With contact cement you have to coat both of the surfaces that are
being bonded to each other. I assume when you say the "good side" you
are referring to the side that shows, which of course you don't want
glue on. You do want to put to glue on the cardboard panel as well as
the back of the fabric though.
