I can tell a story about reinstalling windows in my 1968 SS Chevelle. The first restoration attempt had that shop remove and repair window area and reinstall using the proper diameter rope seal. For unknown reasons the seal failed on the way home and I had to hold the front window in with my hand. Second shop had to rework the entire project and removed the windows again. After rerestoring the entire car, they used present day window silicone instead of correct rope seal, (as suggested by a window company), and the window sank too deep, causing misalignment of the window trim plus squashed the seal out into the visible area! They blamed old sealer and the July heat. Also they didn't want to attempt a removal and damage the restored dash, body paint, or new front window. They finally did what I wanted but looking back I should have had a competent auto window company subcontracted for this phase.

Some of the chevelles used small rubber blocks in the bottom channel.

Was the rear window taken out and put back in? If so possibly it isn't
sitting out as proud as it used to. Old methods used butyl tape that gave
just the right fit. When using the new sealers the installer must make sure
he applies the proper size bead to bring the window out to it's correct
position.

I removed all the factory clips and put all new ones on when we cleaned up
the rust in the channel. The new ones aren't as snug as the others but
they
do look to be almost identical. It seems the moulding sits down in the
channel OK but as I work it in some areas pop back out. Anybody
experienced
this before and/or how do I get it seated again?

Thanks for your comments!

Darren
