Re: Discovering farmer suicide in Chhattisgarh

Kisan Mahotsav is going on in Chhattisgarh. Govt is distributing bonus
on paddy and offering land deeds to the limited number of forest
dwellers. This is the propoganda played by BJP to ensure maximum votes
in ensuing Lok Sabha election. Poor congress trying to oppose the
move, but not having much issues on hand. Would somebody brief them to
take up the issues of farmer's suicide in CG, which stands among the
worst state in handling farmer's suicide. Though, Congress may
reluctant to take up this issue, as distress in Agriculture is
directly linked with failure of union policy to address the cause.

Re- Can anyone help me find a chhattisgarhi lok geet

Public should demand to taxfree the film Delhi-6. More people would
like to see the movie just because of this song. We should enjoy that
the Chhattisgarhi song has made its place in the mainstream
entertainment. The controversy about not given credit to original
lyricist remains but, we can see it as recognition of Chhattisgarhi
identity, which is way different from the identity, party like MNS
trying to create about Marathi Manus.

Dams to be built in Polavaram project to prevent submergence

Dams to be built in Polavaram project to prevent submergence

New Delhi, Feb 24 : Dams would be constructed as part of the mega Polavaram
irrigation project in Andhra Pradesh to prevent submergence of villages or
farmland in neighbouring Orissa or Chhattisgarh, the Centre said today.

An additional allocation of Rs 628 crore has been made for construction of
these dams, Minister of State for Water Resources Jaiprakash Narayan Yadav
said in Lok Sabha while responding to concerns expressed by BJD MP B K
Tripathy.

"There will be no situation like submergence of farmland or villages. All
the concerns raised by the member (Tripathy) have been considered and steps
are being taken to ensure that no submergence takes place." The Minister was
responding to Tripathy's remarks that the Rs 10,000 crore project, coming up
in West Godavari district, would affect the people and farming in 440
villages of Orissa and Chhattisgarh.

In Orissa, the BJD leader said it would submerge the areas inhabited by
tribals, including the primitive tribes, and would violate the Godavari
Tribunal recommendations.

Maintaining that 814 families, mostly tribals, would be displaced due to the
project, he sought stoppage of work and urged the Centre to ask Andhra
Pradesh government to consult the governments of Orissa and Chhattisgarh on
the matter. Tripathy said Orissa government had also raised the matter with
Prime Minister Manmohan Singh.

Anaemia growing among rural Indian children: report

Anaemia growing among rural Indian children: report

*New Delhi <http://www.newkerala.com/topstory-fullnews-98838.html#>, Feb
23 : Prevalence of anaemia is growing among children in rural
India<http://www.newkerala.com/topstory-fullnews-98838.html#>with
states like Jharkhand and Chhattisgarh having ‘very high’ levels of
food insecurity on the composite index of food, a just-released report here
says.*

Even the economically developed states of Gujarat, Maharashtra, Andhra
Pradesh and Karnataka found themselves in the category of high food
insecurity - a manifestation of the agrarian crisis in the states and its
consequent fallout on the
health<http://www.newkerala.com/topstory-fullnews-98838.html#>and
well-being of the rural population of India.

Despite improvements with regard to stunting among children, access to
safe drinking
water <http://www.newkerala.com/topstory-fullnews-98838.html#> and basic
sanitation over the past decade, it was found that calorie intake and
chronic energy deficiency on the other hand had remained stagnant, the
report, released by the M S Swaminathan Research Foundation (MSSRF) and
World Food Programme (WFP) here last week, said.

The report on the State of Food Insecurity in Rural India is a follow-up on
the Food Insecurity Atlas of Rural India released in 2001.

Jharkhand and Chhattisgarh, which reported ‘very high’ levels of food
insecurity, were followed by Madhya Pradesh, Bihar and Gujarat.

Worryingly, as many as eight states - Andhra Pradesh, Bihar, Gujarat,
Haryana, Karnataka, Kerala, Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan - have shown
increase in the incidence of anaemia among women in the reproductive age
group.

The highest increase in anaemia levels was seen in Andhra Pradesh (51 to 64
per cent), followed by Haryana (48 to 57 per cent) and Kerala (23 to 32 per
cent).

Twelve of 20 states under consideration have figures higher than 80 per cent
for proportion of rural anaemic children. Bihar, that already had a high
figure of 81 percent, has further increased to 89 per cent. The proportion
of rural stunted children in Karnataka also saw a rise from 39 to 43 per
cent.
