I think most people prefer males for outside dogs and females for inside. However, my experience has been just the opposite. I try for females outside (they don't run away from home every time a neighborhood female is in heat!) and males inside. Of course, this could just be because my female chis are brutes who beat up on all my little boys!! Also, I think it is easier to find, clean, and correct the males marking (it is always "against" something) than the females.....who go anywhere in the middle of the floor (where, without fail, I always step in it!) One of my females is now 4 years old and the ONLY one who is not housebroken (despite my best efforts!) and don't mind anything! She is a genuine little brat! lol.
