Hello I'm new to this board and I'm hoping some of you Chihuahua
experts can help me.
I have a 2 yr old long hair male chi. He is not fixed. I have had
him since he was 8 wks old. He weighs about 5 lbs. We also have an
American Bullnese, male, not fixed about 9 months old.
My Chis behaviour has changed drastically. It started out slowly
and has progressivly gotten worse.
He has always growled at my 15yr old son and has never quite liked
him. This I can live with because he is mostly my dog and is always
with me and sleeps in my bedroom. At first I thought that he was
just jealous of my son. During the day while I'm at work he would
be placed in his kennel. At first this was never a problem. After
a while he started to growl when he was told to get in his kennel.
Now it has evolved to downright loud growling and luning at the cage
door.
So I decided not to put him in the kennel and give him free rein of
my bedroom. Well now he is growling at me and growling at me in a
bad way. He use to love for me to pet him and rub his belly. Now
he will not tolerate being petted. I mean he puts up with it but
growls like crazy. You would think this dog must have been abused
or something.
His behavior is getting worse and now he is starting to pee all over
the house. Even if he has just been walked. He is also peeing out
of spite. If I walk out of the bedroom and come back I will find
that he has gotten on the bed and peed on my pillow or my bed or my
clothes.
I dont know if getting him fixed will correct his behavior. I've
been giving him lots of affection and lots of treats. This has only
toned down his growling and will put up with being petted.
Can anyone offer some advise. Please tell me what has gone wrong.
I love this little dog. He is so cute to see him. His name is
Chico and I feel like changing it Vicious. I dont want to give up on
him but I also do not want a dog that just the sound of my voice
makes him growl. He seems to be fine health wise. Eats well and is
active. Its funny when he sees strange people he runs up to them to
be petted and doesnt mind them petting him. I'm not sure if getting
him neutred will help. Other Chi breeders told me it would not
bring about a major change. They tell me they think its my other
male dog that is irrating him and he is letting me know it. But we
try to keep them apart. They are hardly together in the same room.
Please can someone tell me what happen to my wonderful little dog
or where I can turn for some answers?????
