I have really mixed feelings about raw, so I have done some research
on my own and have come up with the following points:

1. Grapefruit seed extract is a natural antibacterial agent that will
kill mold, bacteria, salmonela and other bacterias found in meat. I
have added this to the preperation of my meat food.

2. Because i have a dog with diabetes, it has been recommended that I
feed a high fibre diet. I have noticed through testing that my dog
goes into lipophase, (bad for diabetics) when he is on meat only, so I
have added a bit of cooked brown rice to level this process out, and
balance his protein with a high fibre carb.

3. My chi is overweight, so he doesn't get the rice.

4. I add about a cup of boiling water to the pins food and about half
to three quarters to the chis food, it is enough to heat through the
meat.

5. I also mix the food with plain yogourt with live bacteria culture
(after the water cools slightly) to help the intestines and digestion
process maintain healthy flora to combat any bad bacteria.

These things have worked for me, so far so good.

I also grind my own beef that I get from the butcher.

I guess, in short we are never going to all agree on what the best
method for feeding our pets is, but for me, I have found a system that
I feel safe and comfortable with. Really that is such a big part of
the battle.
