Why not create a list of what one should consult before breeding their chihuahua. I will start and we all can add something additional to the list. Just copy and paste (fix my mistakes please, as my information is just a starting point) and add your own valuable information to the list. IF YOU ARE GOING TO BREED CHIHUAHUA'S THESE ARE THINGS YOU MIGHT CONSIDER: Genetic issues you might consider: * Any heart defects present in the line? * OFA Patella Luxation Report See: http://www.offa.org/patluxgrade.html for more information * Other OFA reports (these reports are searchable folks) * CERF certification See: http://www.vmdb.org/history.html * BAER tests (congenital deafness) * musculoskelatal frame of bitch - Radiographs may be needed to determine if your bitch can birth naturally. Also, you might want to ask breeder if the mother of your bitch birthed naturally or had a c-section. The need or c-sections is inherited. C-sections are extremely dangerous to Chihuahuas. If the birth mother delivered by c-section, you should not take the risk. * PLEASE ADD Temperment issues you might consider: * Is the dog shy and nervous? This trait can be inherited. * Is the dog aggressive? * PLEASE ADD Size of bitch and stud dog: * Experts say that breeding bitches should weigh at least 4 lbs. * The stud should not ever be larger than the bitch. * PLEASE ADD Skills you should possess: * You should know how to administer CPR to your dogs. * PLEASE ADD Physical traits of the Chihuahua: * You should strive to acheive the AKC breed standard for Chihuahua's. * PLEASE HELP ME WITH THIS ONE AND ADD PLEASE ADD ADDITIONAL SECTIONS AS YOU SEE FIT. Lets leave out the DON'T BREED at ALL from this list.
