Although I don't do it personally, it is perfectly acceptable to breed son to
mother, but not daughter to father. (or I may have that backwards!! lol) It is
also ok to breed grandson to grandmother, ect. It is called line breeding and
it is recognized by the AKC as a legitimate breeding method and you see a lot
of it in champion dogs.

They are also liable to get a horrible dog. IMO that is just too risky

We bought our dog from my hubby's cousin. She was telling us that next time
around they were going to try breeding mom and son. I asked about that b/c with
humans that's just not allowed. She said you can do that as long as it wasn't
brother and sister. I know they were only doing mother/son to see if they could
get a lighter brown puppy that way.

Okay.....I had a guy who was a German Shepherd breeder tell me one
time it's okay for the grandfather of a dog to breed his
granddaughter. Is that so for all breeds, or not at all?

      Thanks!

Depends on the genetics. I, personally, do NOT line breed; though it is
common. You may get double the good genes but, also, you may enhance any
faults you have as well.
