Is the bloodwork done "just" before the surgery? Blood results are not usually that instantaneous. I hope you mean like a week before intended surgery. wishing our best michelle and henry -----Original Message----- From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] To: Chihuahuas@yahoogroups.com Sent: Wed, 17 Jan 2007 9:25 PM Subject: [Chihuahuas] Re: Vet Recommendations for neutering
Thanks for the information about what to ask for when we have our almost 6 month old LH chi puppy neutered. We found a vet nearby with a good recommendation. I asked about pre op bloodwork and the use of an IV during surgery. They plan to do both. We are also going to have a hind leg dew claw removed and his teeth checked to make sure the baby teeth are out. Is there anything else I should be aware of? Thanks so much for your help as I wouldn't have known what to ask the vet or what treatment was best for our little guy. (I needed it anyway as my holistic vet was to make him nutritional suppplements tailored to his biological needs). Unfortunately, he had a high BUN. The doctor (my traditional emergency vet who is close by and the surgeon who I was to let operate) who previously had called me stupid for spending the extra money said "he would not operate at this time" with the high BUN. > He had made me feel so over protective for asking for it and needless to say I hated bring right and getting that news. > > Also there is the issue of the anesthesia method he will use. Has he put your dogs under before? We had already had experience with that when he broke a nail in the nail bed (ouch). But there is a lot written in here on masking etc. Become an expert on that as well. > I've been victim of thinking I was inquiring too much of the so- called experts. Please don;t make the same mistake and be very "alpha" about his care. > lov > michelle and henry > catskill mtns, ny > > -----Original Message----- > From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] > To: Chihuahuas@yahoogroups.com > Sent: Tue, 16 Jan 2007 3:28 PM > Subject: [Chihuahuas] Vet Recommendations for neutering > > > > > We are ready to neuter our almost 6 month old LH chihuahua.
