Thank you Marsha for a most helpful reply. I bet she'll like those green
beens. Do you suggest cooked or raw?

just the "standard"...it is what breeders should strive to be under, ....but
there are plenty of larger chis out there and they are still chis. Just being
bigger than 6 pounds does not mean they need to loose weight. However, if your
chi is actually fat...meaning weighing to much based on his or her own body
build, then a great diet is to cut back on food to just what the body actually
needs, and use greenbeans as a snack to ward off hunger. Greenbeans will fill
them up, but have no calories....so you can pretty much give as much greenbeans
as needed to keep them from being hungry, and just enough regular dry food to
provide the necessary nutrition.
A healthy weight dog should have feelable ribs. You should be able to feel
their ribs when you place your hands on their sides, but you should not be able
to SEE their ribs just from looking.

Thanks Sue. My Chi looks great to me, but I was concerned she was so
much higher than standard 6 lbs. My Rita is probably 10-11 lbs now. Love of
my life. Best dog ever.
It's a relief to know some are bigger.

I have 2 chi's from 2 different breeders and the male is 9lbs and
female is 10 1/2 lbs and they exercise all the time. They are both muscular and
fit. Just larger! Not a thing wrong with them. (you should see them catapult
off the couch chasing each other)

Hi.. So I love my Chi who is just about 2 yrs old. She weights way
more than the 6lbs they say is right. She gained a lot of weight after
she was fixed. The vet suggested cutting her wet food down which we
did. We don't feed her people food. She still has not lost much
weight and I wonder if she can lose some. She is pretty lazy and loves
to nap, but I'm trying to get her out for regular walks.
Any suggestions? Should I worry if she's over 10 lbs?
Ed
