I wanted one for three years and in my quest to find one learned a lot from the
search and the good breeders that tried to help me find a black one (which is
why it took so long and though I am not sure why I had to have one like this,
now i know it was because Henry and I were meant to be together). I feel like
if a breeder is willing to ship a tiny dog thats a red flag as they are so
small (and tender and scared) this is not a good way to start the relationship
off or put them through as their first radical life change. My ex worked for
the airlines and though many will say its a?pretty reliable transport, i know
too many horror stories to the contrary. Keep in mind this is a tiny being
maybe a pound or two. (this is just an opinion some will differ with)

Also I was wary of one who would not delve into my ability to care for?one of
these babies. You should basically be interviewed maybe even asked to give
references as to where you will keep the baby, what other dogs or kids live
there, is the yard?safely fenced,?etc. Someone who is willing to just sell you
a dog and does not care enough to inquire as to where it ends up is not to be
trusted IMO.
See if you can find one that is available for you to drive to so shipping will
not be a problem. Or if you can find a cheap ticket make sure to tell the
airline your return will be with a dog as only one or two are allowed in any
given cabin and its first come first serve. Henry and I spent our first night
in a cheap hotel in Alabama before we flew back home (I was lucky I got a cheap
flight as I was willing to fly on thanksgiving day or else I would have driven
all the way). It was not home with his littermates but I tried to make it nice.
I had a small crate and blankets and was given a few of his favorite toys from
his breeder. She also gave me some of the food he had been eating. Even though
I feed homemade, this was crucial to his first few days transitioning to a new
diet as I weaned him off his old stuff slowly,? mixing his old stuff with
gradually increasing new food.
Get a health record and don't let them multi-vaccinate right before you take
him. That seems like a thing that is done as a selling point often and its also
not a good way to start a journey.
Good luck finding your little friend or his/her finding you. This forum is so
helpful as i am sure you will find out.

best,
michelle and henry in the beautiful Catskill Mountains, NY

I highly recommend you go on the website American Kennel Club or if
you are a Canadian the Canadian Kennel CLub to find a reputable
breeder. There are so many people advertising all types of dogs on
the web, they could be from puppy mills, stolen, sick or not at all
what they are supposed to be. We had a situation in the Maritimes
where dogs were being sold as Yorkies and one woman's Yorkie was 33
lbs and still growing. So for your own peace of mind go to the
professionals.

Brenda Rockwell - I just purchased a dog from a local breeder who I
found on the Canada Kennel Club website and she lived only 200 klm
away. My dog is named Oreo and she is a two year old female. I will
be picking her up this Saturday.
