sometimes it is hard to try to tell what is what. The thing to remember is that the deer head/apple head classification is NOT an official one...which means it is open to some degree of difference in oppinion. All one can realy do is look at the standard for the chi...the closer the standard, the more likely apple. Appleheads have short noses.....so where does that put the nice round headed ones that have long noses?? lol...that is where things get tricky and that is why it is not an official distinction.
for a true apple headed chi, the head should be nice and round, the stop should be short and as close to a 90 degree angle as possible. on other words on a true apple, it will be a 90 degree cornor where the head and nose join...the more the slope (or bigger angle) the further from the apple. Also, when people are refering to deer chis, they are not just talking about heads, but bodies as well. The standards call for cobbly body, slightly shorter in legth than highth......the deers have longer bodies, longer legs, are skinnier built, ect...what I call "lanky" because that is what I also call a tall skinny human, lol.....
