Kelly,

Do you think the vet might have told your friend that because she may get a
kick back from the dog food companies for selling their food? I have heard
that when vets are in school it is the dog food companies that come in to
train them about nutrition. Whether that is true or not I don't know but if
it is I would think that is why most vets don't have much knowledge about
raw feeding. I have a vet that believes in raw but he also has a farm.
Feeding dog food has its draw back also. Their teeth get a build up that if
you don't clean them can cause health problems too. If the vet has to clean
their teeth putting them under anesthesia is not always safe either. If
your dog is allergic to grain it will cause skin problems. To me I just
don't see the positives with dog food that I see with raw.

I have a very dear friend and breeder of champion chihuahuas, who use to
feed a raw diet, five years she did this....

Until 2 of her champion dogs died from pancreatitis. she fed all human grade
meat, that she purchased at the grocery store. they both died receiving vet
care. when the vet finally got out of her what she was feeding, she said she
see a lot of dogs die from feeding raw.

I''m on several raw feeding lists with hundreds of members. I've been
feeding raw for about six years. I have NOT heard of a dog die due to
feeding raw. Yes, you should do your research and be educated about
ANYTHING you are feeding your dog, but please don't automatically jump to
the conclusion that raw=bad.
