I personally am in total opposition to mandatory spay/neuter. I would simply go under ground if that were the case here! Not doubting you at all Shanna, but it cracks me up about Vegas...I can have MOnkeys, Ferrets, wild exotics etc in Vegas...anything I want really...but I have to spay my dog??? Really...a little crazy I think!!
Now saying I would go underground...there will be issues to that...think this through...there will be lots of people that will avoid vet care if needed because their dog is not spay/neuter...there will be lots of dogs going without shots...medicines etc. There will be vets like mine that will work "underground"...this will just lead to a BIG can of WORMS!!! Mandatory spay/nueter laws are NOT going to fix this...I promise!! It will make it worse!!!! Peer pressure...one on one...just like in this group here to some extent will be effective...education about being a RESPONSIBLE dog owner!!!! Repercussions for NOT being a responsible dog owner!!! I pay 5 times the amount for my dog license here in CA if I choose NOT to spay and neuter...but it is my choice!!! I have lost enough rights living in this "great" country of ours...I certainly don't want to lose any more! We...as a group and as individuals can make GREAT strides in affecting the quality of life for animals by SHARING what we do with our animals with others...by FOSTERING the love, nurturing and care we give our pets with others...teaching them...supporting them...admonishing them and encourageing them!!! Our ACTIONS influence the ACTIONS of others!!! Here is an GREAT example of what we can do as individuals!!!!... many of you have chosen differently but this is just an example of influence...When I started feeding "raw" to my pack over a year ago I "Shared" the amazing bennefits and transformations i witnessed in my pets...I shared how and why and the results...I spent HOURS typing and answering questions...I spent HOURS over at friend's houses...in their kitchens...teaching them "HOW"! Do yo realize that just in less than a year "MY" influence alone led over 63 people that i personally know of to switch to raw and learn about nutrition for their dogs???? That is HUGE!!!! Thats more than one a week and do you know that those are just the ones i have actual knowledge of??? I know there must be more that I don't. THATS how we make a difference...we influence by sharing and teaching and encouraging...whatever the message is!!! RESPONSIBILITY is what NEEDS to be taught and influenced!!!! We encourage by sharing and teaching and coming along side others...LEGISLATION does NOT work...it just leads to worse conditions...it is a historical fact in so many cases!!! We need PEOPLE to help PEOPLE become better PEOPLE!!! WE do not need our corrupt, self serving government involved!!! I am off my soap box...but that is my 2 cents...actually about a buck-fifty!!! Hi Here in Vegas I believe, its a law now that all dogs and cats HAVE to be fixed. If you want to breed, you have to apply for a breeders license first and I think they do a background check, home check, and most likely other things I am not aware of. I know of one pet store here that I would love to print out that post I sent here and stand out by the pet shop and hand it out to everyone going in there. Xmas is coming and this is the worst time for puppies to be bought... then after a month or 2, they are discarded due to being a puppy! they need direction, attention, love, and TRAINING! why people think a puppy or dog knows he is not suppose to do this or that, is beyond me. I do not know if I can get into trouble for stand out there giving out papers. I am going to tell this now as I have not prior. A year ago I lost my job at PETCO. I worked for Petco for 7 years! I worked in CA (Redwood City on Woodside Rd) for 4 years then moved here to Vegas where I transferred here at a petco for 3 years. Petco does not sell dogs or cats, but have adoptions on weekends. The reason I joined this chi group was because I have NEVER had a chihuahua before and I was lost on some of the things Ricky was doing that I had never encountered before. To my surprise, Chihuahua's are a "horse of a different color" you might say! I have learned so much from this group. Everyone is so sweet and do not put you down for anything. only great info and 100% support on everything. I love this group. I think it would be a wonderful idea to maybe try to do a fund raiser for pets. I am thinking now to have a garage sale and collect money for a needy cause with dogs and cats. So if money was given to a kill shelter, what will that do for the dogs and cats? Will they still be killed in 72 hours or sooner? I really do not know the answer to that. Deanna had a great idea making jewelry out of those cute dog tags. maybe make and sell those? or, offer one free with any donation? We want to save dogs and cats from the shelter, so what will money do for them once they are there? I want to so much go and save a life today... I am so angry now about what I read. Some people can really not know what goes on in the shelters. We have in our mind they just get a shot and off to sleep they go. I am ashamed to say, that is what I thought until I read the post.
