I did a Google on litter box training dogs and it seems like something you can 
try especially since he is a smaller dog.

Thanks for responding, I haven't tried that.  I've heard that chihuahuas can be 
litter box trained.  I've always had big dogs, labs and retrievers, never a 
small one before. How would be the best way to train him that he can poop in a 
box or on a pad? I've never even had a cat so I really have no idea.  He's a 
great dog, I always said I'd never have a chihuahua or any toy size dog, but 
when I saw him he was in such bad shape and my heart melted for him so I had to 
bring him home with me.  This is really the only complaint that we have about 
him so anything is worth a try.
