You are absolutely correct! And it would have been nice if everyone got notified first, instead of going crazy for hours trying to fix their email and computer, because they thought something was wrong and it never occurred to them that a moderator would just shut down, without Emailing the group and warning everyone that they have to cool it first or they will be shut down. Which is what happened to me, and I had to send a private email to the moderator in order to see the group mail again.
