Princess will hide any where she can when I vac. Gigi is funny and so different from other dogs that I had. She will sit a couple of feet away from me and watch me vacuum clean and as soon as I shut it off she walks over and smells it, then she runs to her bed. As soon as I turn it on again, she runs over to me and sits again to watch. I think, she thinks it's entertainment for her, lol! She certainly isn't afraid of it, so she neither barks or tries to attack it.
I saw the Dog Whisperer once where he conditioned a couple of dogs not to attack the vac. When I had my maltese's the male always tried to attack it. The solution was to put him in his crate when he would start barking at it. He felt safe in the crate and after a while when he saw me take out the vacuum cleaner, he would just walk into his crate on his own and I didn't have to lock it close. Of course when it came time for me to vac the area where his crate was, I would tell him he was a good boy and carry it with him inside to the oppostite side of the room. I do not have the problem of dog hair as some of you do.... but my problem is RICKY chases and bites at the vaccuum the whole time I am using it. He does that also with the steam mop in my kitchen.
