Carol Rabies is a federal law for all states, but the federal law allows each state to designate whether it is to be given once a year, or every three years. The actual vaccine medicine is exactly the same whether it is a one year or three year shot. The dosage given is exactly the same amount whether it is given for a two pound dog or a 125 pound dog.
Which is why so many of the smaller dogs eventually can have a reaction to it when given to frequently through the years. Dr. Dobbs and many other Vets believe that one shot gives a dog immunity for life. Also their hasn't been any case of dog rabies anywhere in the US in over 20 years. So even if a dog was only given one shot as a puppy and then let's say 5 years later comes into contact with a rabid raccoon, it still will not get the rabies virus. The reason why the Federal government will not change the law on the rabies shot is because Dr. Dobbs research is based upon statistics and not an actual experiment where a dog is given the vaccine and then lets say 5 years later is allowed to be bitten by a rabid animal to prove that the dog can not actually get rabies or spread it.
