Peggy, I am not a puller, someone I talk with online is, and they could not get out to the SB animal control in time, and I am very close to it. No this is the one in downtown San Bernardino, not the Devore shelter. I saw your e-mail and crossed posted it to people. So the little female I pulled yesterday wasn't one you sent. I wish I could go save them all, but I just can't. I am going to try and foster one at a time though. Soon as this little one gets back to health and in her forever home, I will take on another.  I don't have allot of money, so just trying to help do what I can. Her paper work stated that she was to fearful to be vac.. & tried to bite. I am taking her Saturday to be checked out at the Humane Soc. & see what they say. I will take some pic's of her tonight and show you all the skeleton she is. I had no idea that you were a puller.  Is Devore the same shelter where you got her?   I also stated about the horrific conditions of that shelter and how they have been under investigation for some time now, but nothing has changed there. That shelter isn't any better then a PM. Dogs have been taken to Vets by rescues with frost bite on their feet, tummy's and neck because they hose down the runs with the dogs still in them and then when the water freezes, the dogs have no place to go but walk on the wet ice as it freezes to their bodies.   Thank God you got her out of there!!   It's a very good sign that she wants to eat...poor baby!. I would not give her any shots until she has been seen by a Vet and tested for worms. Most Shelters make it mandatory that they are given a rabies shot Before the dog is released, and they would have had to give you a tag and some give certificates from the vet as well. If she was given the rabies shot, then I would definitely wait at least 6 weeks before giving her a 5 in 1 shot. During this time it will allow her body to put on more weight and build up some resistance.  Is she spayed?   You really can't tell how thin she is in the picture, but oh what a cute little face! The fact that she wants to eat and you are giving her the pumpkin is good, but I would also give her Nutra-Cal to build up her electrolytes and extra vitamins and minerals that have depleted in her current condition. The pedialyte doesn't have as many vitamins and minerals, and has a much higher sugar content then the Nutra-Ca,l which is made just for dogs. I would be feeding her 3 to 4 times a day, very small meals of a good kibble that is moistened with water/canned food so that it is softer on her system and it will give her body more time to better digest at smaller amounts and intervals. In your care, I am sure that she is going to be just fine!   Here's the link  to the Devore Shelter, their are 6 other Chi's that are listed. I have been told that once they list their dogs it means that they only have 5 days and then they are PD, period!  So if you or anyone you know can pull even one dog a week, foster and adopt it out, that's a lot of Chi's that could be saved every month just from this one horrific shelter. I have been talking with a rescue group member, and they needed someone to pull a dog from the city of San Bernardino Animal control. It was a Female Papillon, well I hadn't been there in years, and I know why. I had to turn around an go to my car. I started crying when I saw the dogs all stuffed in cold wet cement dog runs. There was a tiny Chi that was pulling hard at my heart. I had them pull her too. I delivered the Pap, but am now fostering the Chi. She is skin and bones, she probably weighs 2lbs, but should be at least 3lbs. She is eating, but has diarrhea. I gave her some pumpkin in her food this morning, What else can I give her? They didn't give her shots, paper work says to fearful and would try to bite. She has not tried to bite me.. If you saw the pen she was in with these 4 or five other bigger dogs I would have bitten anyone too.. So far she is a sweet heart, she is food aggresive, with my dogs, not me. I can't blame her her ribs are all showing and her back bone is too a long with her tail bones.. What should I be giving her to get her weight back up? Also should I wait to get her shots? or do it now? I may have a home lined up for her too.. Thanks everyone.. Beth
