Hello Lynn,

Oh I didn't have her posted on the site, I just keep checking the lost & found
section.
I would only return her in the situation if the owner could prove to me that
she was there's and be willing to give me some of the vet cost back. I know if
she was mine and I had lost her, I would want that option.
That is really kind of you to even think about helping me with her vet fee's.
I knew I was going to have to spend some money on her, but was really hoping it
wouldn't be allot.  I do believe she is on her way to good health, so hoping
the only other cost will be her spay and shots as soon as she is well enough.
I almost feel guilty keeping her, cause my ex really sounded like he liked
her....
I know he would give her a wonderful home as well...

I went home at lunch and let the girls out. I have 3 others Chi's other then
Vida. My 1st Chi is "Smidgen" and then I have her daughter "Chassis", They are
9 & 8 years old. Then I bought Dani Last April when she was 8 wks old. She is
my moose!! She is a long coat and weighs almost 8lbs. Smidge and Chassis are
3lbs and 2.8lbs. Vida's is 3lbs.
So I am most definitely at my limit of Chihuahua's!! People keep telling me
they are like Lay's potato chips, You just can't have one!! LOL
Oh and we are in Southern CA.
Beth

Hi Beth - I bet she does want you all for her own, (lol).  Who could blame her
though, what she's been through.  How great about how well she is doing with
potty training.  Take her off of Craigslist. She's yours now.  If someone was
really searching for her, they would be desperate, wouldn't they? I seriously
was thinking when you first posted about going back for her because you
couldn't stand to leave her there, and the awful shape she was in, her precious
face, etc., I would beg and plead my husband for her (or just show up with her
one day, ha, as, was it Peggy or Carol who suggested that sneaky and great
tactic?), I would pay your vet fees if you weren't going to keep her,
but wasn't sure where you live (I live in Ohio) and then you mentioned your ex
was interested in her, but I am just glad she is in such a good place now.  You
have Dani and one other little girl?

Hi Lynn, I was laughing allot last night.. Vida was a different dog. I think
she will be happy with me. She does need to learn to share me with the other
girls though.
When I picked her up from the shelter the paper work just said she was picked
up as a stray and was at the shelter on 2-19-11 to 3-2-11 when I got her. She
is appr. 1 year old, but they said she isn't over 2.
She must have been someones pet though. She is doing great on the potty
training, doesn't go in her crate at all.
I check the lost n found on craigslist when I can. But I think if she was
really missed she wouldn't have been in the shelter for 2 weeks?  So it is
there loss.  Plus I have invested over 200.00 dollars and allot of time.
I wonder how that works?  If someone was to see her and say that is my dog!
What rights do I have?
Beth

I laughed out loud at your last statement Beth!  It must be hilarious to see
the difference in their sizes and watch the dynamics going on there.  Gee, it
sounds like she is relaxing into the security of your household really quickly,
you must be a great mom, that she would let go that defensive mode about her
food so soon when it seems she got next-to-nothing food at the shelter....she
must just feel so happy and loved now.  Was anyone at the shelter able to give
you any history about her, how she came to be there, did someone give her up or
that that she was found as a stray? Did you say approximately how old she might
be?  Anyway, their loss.  She's a doll.

Thank you Lynn, Yes I think she is a happy girl. I was shocked to see her
playing with Dani so well, because she has been so defensive about her food,
sleep area. Last night they all were crunching on dry kibble out of Vida's
dish! So she isn't as worried about starving anymore.  Its funny though to see
a almost 8lbs Chi give in too a 3lb Chi.

OMGosh.  She is adorable and looking so much happier and healthier with her
weight gain.  You're right Beth, about her gorgeous doe-like eyes.  What a
difference in just 2 weeks of being loved and being fed.  That's so wonderful
you've decided to keep her (that went pretty smoothly). I don't think she would
have wanted to leave you anyway. They seem to become deeply attached to whoever
(they know) rescues them from their h___ and now she is feeling happily secure
enough to start playing with your Dani, maybe they will become best
friends.  Thanks so much from everyone that loves animals for saving her.

LOL Joan!!! I didn't have too do that.. I called my ex last night, and told him
I have to keep Vida in quarantine for at least 2 weeks, and by then I would
already be too attached.. I said I already am attached too her now!!. He
sounded a bit disappointed, but understood. I told him I would help find him
the right one..
Then the boyfriend comes home, and I was telling him how much Vida and Dani
were playing together tonight, which was true, she hasn't played at all until
last night.  He says boy its gonna be hard to let her go? I looked at him and
said I can't do it... He said with a smile "I just knew it"!! So Vida is
staying with ME!!!
Here are a couple picks I took last night. Today is 2 weeks ago that I picked
her up. She is a wiggle worm so the pic's are blurry, but you can see her
changes, and the weight gain..

Hmmm…Maybe give them a lot to drink and then bring up the subject?  Just
kidding.
Do you think that your ex really wants her?  Or was he just saying that so that
you wouldn’t have another one to take care of.  Your boyfriend…I think he can
see how much you love her!

Lynn it made me feel terrible when she ran tail tucked in to the house. Not too
much else has bothered her. If I have to scold Dani for being too ruff with the
other girls, or for taking something that isn't hers, I do notice Vida cowers
some. She has been through allot, but not anymore!!

Now how do I tell my ex husband that was interested in her, I don't think I can
give her up. LOL.  & to tell my boyfriend, I don't want to adopt her out...?

Help.. Hehe

Isn't that sad Beth, makes me feel sick inside. About Vida's reaction to your
garden hose. And you're so sweet to reassure her that she'll not be
mistreated ever again.  It is just beyond me how anyone can mistreat precious
animals that bring so much joy, laughter and love into our lives. That is so
true, it can be very expensive to save just one, as you said, the big vet
bills to get them to a healthy state. It must bring you great joy though, that
you rescued one, one less frightened to bits of the unknown, or worse, put to
death.  It does me and I don't even really know you, but sure do love your
heart.  Bless you.

I am too Lynn. This is my first rescue, but there are several more that I wish
I could go save. If I had a bank account as big as my heart I would do it in a
moments notice!

It so sad that they come out so sick. I think people would do more rescues if
the dogs weren't so sick!! Knowing they are going too put out a bunch of money,
and go through allot of worry and heart ache, and even death of there new pup.

I learned something about little Vida yesterday. I went out to water some new
plants I had planted over the weekend. When I unreeled the hose she took off
like lightning!  & it hit me why she did this. When I was at the shelter that
day they were spraying the kennels down with a hose. I am sure they sprayed the
dogs too.. I went in and told her it was okay, she would never be sprayed
again.. I am not sure she understood, but I will know in the future that its
something she is afraid of.

Beth
