My mistake…you made a reference that you can’t take the money with you so spend
it…perhaps your intent was to spend it on charities? I misunderstood…very
tired and the old brain is still recuperating from surgery.

Actually I perfectly understood the quote of Jesus. Here it is from the NIV
Bible, because Judas was chastising Mary for not for not selling the the
expensive perfume she used on Jesus, but instead told her she should sell it
and basically "donate it to charities". I was using it as an analogy for the
earlier e-mail responses where Meg was being told, to what amounted the same
thing IMO.

  Jesus Anointed at Bethany

1Six days before the Passover, Jesus arrived at Bethany, where Lazarus lived,
whom Jesus had raised from the dead. 2Here a dinner was given in Jesus’ honor.
Martha served, while Lazarus was among those reclining at the table with him.
3Then Mary took about a pinta of pure nard, an expensive perfume; she poured it
on Jesus’ feet and wiped his feet with her hair. And the house was filled with
the fragrance of the perfume.

4But one of his disciples, Judas Iscariot, who was later to betray him,
objected, 5“Why wasn’t this perfume sold and the money given to the poor? It
was worth a year’s wages.b” 6He did not say this because he cared about the
poor but because he was a thief; as keeper of the money bag, he used to help
himself to what was put into it.

7“Leave her alone,” Jesus replied. “[It was intended] that she should save this
perfume for the day of my burial. 8You will always have the poor among you, but
you will not always have me.”

I, too, think that what you buy and spend is really your business. I honestly
don’t think that Meg asked the question to the group thinking that she was to
get the negative replies that I have read. I do not know the financial
situation of everyone on this group. And, if you tell Meg that she spends too
much money on her dogs, you may be just as guilty of spending money for other
things, such as the biggest 3-D television instead of the 32” model which would
be just fine to watch, or you may buy the thousand dollar camera to take pics
of your chi, instead of the $100 model.

I buy mine beds and blankets and clothes. They have a booster seat in the car
and I have a dog stroller for them. I have tile floors everywhere in the house
except for the bedrooms and they are very cold…even during the summer here.
They walk on the floor and then put their paws on my bare legs and they are
freezing cold. If they have a bed here and there so that they can be
comfortable and always near me (their choice) they have a cozy place to lay. I
have been the victim of rear-end collisions…I know that safety is very
important and I don’t want to have a day where someone rear-ends me and Dolly &
Desi end up through the windshield and no longer alive. With my spinal
injuries, if we go places together and there is walking to do, I need to have
that stroller because I cannot hold both of them and walk when they are tired.
They have clothes…they wear them, and in fact, when I take something off of
them to put in the laundry pile, they both follow me around and then bark and
look where the clean clothes are…they shake if they don’t have a little
something to make their cold bodies warmer. I don’t pay as much as you, but
they do have clothes for their comfort and mine (not wanting to wash their
clothes every three days.)

To all of those that say to give clothes to the shelters and food to the
shelters, you have very big hearts for the dogs in the shelters…kudos to you.
I do give very generously to charity both at church and other agencies.
However, when I read all the comments to this post, I don’t think that Meg ever
wrote anything about what money that she donates to shelters, or other
agencies; it very well could be that she donates to the shelters and other
agencies. And, to the person that said ‘the poor will always be with you’
misunderstands that quote as meaning that there will always be people to help –
to help the poor; not to spend all your money until you are poor.

Just my humble opinion.

Meg, if you have the money, and it makes you happy, then there is nothing wrong
with it. We donate and gift where and when we can. But your money is to do
with as you please. If I could afford Juicy for my girls I would probably buy
it too. I usually wait till Baxter Boo has a sale and then load up on stuff.
My children are grown I still buy them stuff they don't need too. Even Jesus
said, "The poor will always be with you." You can't take your money with you
when you die, so enjoy it while your here, as long as your not hurting anyone,
live it up!

I think I would be freaking out if I were your husband also. I was upset
because I had to pay close to $20 dollars for a new harness because my little
one had outgrew hers. I don't think it matters if you are rich or not
rich...that is an exuberant amount of money to spend on your fur babies every
month. They would love you just as much if they had a doggie t-shirt from
Target and an old cereal bowl to eat out of.
