I'm really happy to see someone actually ask this. What bothers me is
when people get chihuahuas without researching and think they can leave
them outside. Bravo that you asked! And you came to the right place.
Mary, no, they don't fair well in heat at all. They have a tendency to
like to sunbath but they don't know enough to get out of the sun!! Also,
they are not really outdoor type dogs. They are meant to be indoor/close
to humans! Sometimes Chis are too needy for some people. Nothing wrong
with someone deciding a chi isn't for them. I'm glad you asked before
deciding to put your dog outside. Lots of people don't. And as someone
mentioned, these little guys are so susceptible to snake bites, birds of
prey etc.....
If you have any other questions, please ask. Great group...lots of good
info and lots of loving Chi parents!!

Subject: *[Chihuahuas] outside dogs
Hi all,
Am new to the group and basically a new Chi owner as well. I have
had Lucy for 1 year this month. She is a rescue, found in my yard
nearly dead. To the point, I was thinking of making her an outside
pet but not sure if she would fair well. Temps lately have reached
100 here in southern Oklahoma. Any thoughts or comments will be
most appreciated.
Mary
