Desi doesn't make too many mistakes any more...he has decided that the bedroom
carpet is the perfect place to poop. I see it after he did it, so I cannot
scold him. He had peed so many times on the bedroom carpet that all the
cleaner residue is making black marks and I can't find anything that will take
it all the way gone. I am going to get the hard vinyl...and planning to do
that before surgery so that it will be easier to use the walker. The guy at
Lowes told me that they charge extra if they have to remove the carpet or if
they have to move furniture. I have these shears that I bought in the tool
dept in Walmart that will cut through metal, so I am going to start cutting the
carpet away where Desi has stained it so bad. I can do a small area every
couple of days and then roll it and put it in the trash bin. Trash is picked
up here once a week, but I have the 96 gallon bin and sometimes don't even have
one full kitchen garbage bag filled in a week. Desi will not want to go potty
on the cold concrete! Then teh only carpet that will be remaining is the
carpet that is under the furniture. I really think getting the carpet up that
way will be very easy. Maybe the carpet knife is easier...I will ask Judy's
husband, Tony.
I moved Desi's gold fencing in the living room about two months ago when Mandy
was here. So he has been staying there when I go out. He never used the puppy
pad there, but since Mandy has been her this last time, he is using the puppy
pad...think he is marking it that it is his area. Boys just have that marking
thing and he was neutered before he was 4 months old.
I know it is winter and not sure where you live, but if your Mom can just put
him outside and watch until he does go potty and then give him praise and a
treat, it may take a couple of weeks, but he will learn what is expected of him
outside. I am very surprised because Desi, who is obsessed with food will now
go outside potty before he wants his breakfast. It is a slow process that
demands a lot of our time, but I think there will always be something that will
set the boys off for going potty where they aren't supposed to.
I hope that this works, and that your Mom lives where she can let him out and
watch from afar.

My moms chi is almost 2 and he is impossible. She can leave him out for 2 hours
and he will come in and go on the floor. I stayed with them this summer when my
AC went out. I would let him out with my 6 chis and he still came in and went
on the floor. She has tried crating him, walking on the leash, taking him out
every hour. Nothing works! Any advice?

both of mine used puppy pads at first. I know I put Dolly outside to go potty,
she didn't really learn to go out every time until I had my neighbor's dog
visiting. Dolly was learning to go in and out with Mandy. Desi was my total
nightmare. he would go outside be out there for a long time, and then would
come in and potty wherever he pleased. finally, I would put him outside and
close the door. I would watch through the living room window, and he would just
be wandering around back and forth. after about 20 minutes he actually went off
of the patio and went potty. I had to repeat that almost a week before he
understood that he had to go potty when he was out there. Dolly learned from
Mandy, Desi did not learn from dolly. Desi was a little chubby boy, so I
couldn't do the routine treat after every time that he did right. when his
weight finally got down to a healthy weight that is when I started giving him a
treat when he came in after going potty. we do have puppy pads in the house,
and they do use those at night or during the day if I'm sleeping. On cold and
rainy days they also use the puppy pads. I have 1 of the puppy pad holders and
I experimented 1 day when it was raining this past summer. I put it right
outside the door in the corner of the patio. Dolly and Desi have used that
puppy pad quite a few times. some people have taken the dog out on leashes in
the yard to get them to go potty and understand that is where they are supposed
to go. good luck, I hope that she picks it up really soon.
