P.S. -- Sorry I thnk I replied before seeing your reply to another person's 
question.   It's GREAT to hear you carry him around in a basket!   I think 
you're doing all you can and just be alert for signs of pain, make sure he's 
getting meds to keep him comfortable (anti-inflammatories taken with something 
to protect the stomach), and enjoy his remaining time with you.  

Does he still enjoy being stroked?
