I live next door to 2 pit bull dogs. Shortly after I moved in I was told by
the owner, that they did not train, vaccinated or handle their dogs at all. So
I contacted animal control. Animal control made them vaccinate and license
their dogs. Animal control also told them what I said “that is they got loose
or came over the fence onto my property I would kill them (which I will). They
are feral dogs and quite nasty.

I think that if it were me, I would warn that neighbor, very nicely, but
firmly, that if his dog keeps running over to say hello to your dogs, because
he is off leash, that he is giving you no choice but to complain to the town
authorities. I would explain that, you don't want to see the dog taken away
from him, because you know that a pitty, no matter how sweet it is, doesn't
have a prayer in a shelter. I would also explain that he is breaking the pitty
law, by allowing her out on a public street unleashed, and he as the owner is
risking a death wish for his own dog!

If he doesn't listen, then you have no choice but to issue a legal complaint.
At least in your heart, you know that you gave him fair warning.

I live next door to one pit bull and across the street from another. The
neighbors across the street never have their Pitt on a leash. She is very
friendly with people and is usually only outside when one of her owners is
nearby. She does however come charging across the street, if she sees me out
with my Cooper and Dali. My dogs go into a barking and shrieking frenzy when
she does this, and I am terrified that they will trigger a response in her! I
have expressed my concern to my neighbors but they just brush it off and tell
me that she would never do anything.

These encounters with the Pitt have made Dali now very aggresive when she sees
any dog! Cooper will usually stay somewhat calm as long as the dog does not
run at us.

Today I was in the park with my dogs and an unleashed Collie came running at
us. My dogs freaked out again! It aggrevates me so much, because I bring my
dogs to a puppy group every week to get them used to behaving well with other
dogs. The group is run by a dog trainer and it has really helped my Chi's to
begin to overcome their fears. When we have an encounter with an unleashed dog
charging at us , it just sets them back in their fears. I really want to
socialize them so they are as sweet with other people as they are with me, and
give friendly dogs a chance but it has been a slow challenging process!

Me too. And don't get me started on the subject of "Pitts" lol. It is not
worth the risk to me of subjecting them to other dogs. We have our own pack of
three and my gf's dog comes over..Enough..

I steer clear of large dogs. One change of heart and they could kill my Chi.
The owners always say "Oh my dog likes other dogs or doesn't bite" but we had a
kill at the beach not too long ago. A super friendly Pit suddenly changed it's
mind and killed a tiny dog with one bite.

We all knew this dog and it was a sweetheart tn suddenly bam. Especially, since
my littler Chi exhibits aggressive behavior with his growling.

Any dog can snap. So, no big dog friends. Also they can easily step on the
small ones, that's the least of it.
