I know that it is difficult for herding dogs to get rid of fleas, since their body's cannot deal with a lot of the flea meds that are out there, if the dog carries the MDR1-gene and most of them do, then some of the flea meds will kill that type of dog. Your neighbor should ask his vet which flea med is safe and effective for a herding dog such as his Aussie/mix.

What I find interesting is the man that brought him has one dog and says he battles fleas all the time and nothing gets rid of them yet I rarely have a flea problem unless a stray shows up with them. Must be their good food and such. Hopefully they will ALL healhty again soon.
