Peggy, I've had it happen when I had all Borzoi. Wolf packs do not protect worn out leaders. The new leader leads the pack into killing the old leader.

Yes, I have heard of that before and usually it is when you have a mix of different breeds in a pack. I read some where once that if the pack is all of the same breed it is very unusual, and if anything they protect the older one, especially if it was once the pack leader. Such is nature, I guess. That is why they do this. Most people do not have packs of dogs like I do. But I have seen this before when we had 9 big dogs. Breaking up a pack attack by big dogs can be pretty dangerous. I've been bitten a time or two because they wouldn't pay attention to my voice. Jewell is somewhere around 12 to 15 years old.
