Ardy as a retired professional groomer, I can tell you that grooming is a lot of back work, but if a person doesn't have the correct tools like a good clipper with sharpened blades and very sharp scissors it can be a horror. I groomed dogs for most of my life, including my own pets and after doing it for something like 35 yrs, I said enough, and didn't want anymore grooming dogs, LOL. I use to work in a pet shop and a groom-mobile and then I did it from my own home. I can't believe how much they get today to groom a dog, although I did always feel that I was under paid when I did it and it wasn't worth the back aches of doing 10-18 dogs per day. Had you been taught the correct way to groom her she wouldn't have been such a big deal to do. Once a poodle is shaved down, they don't need it again for atleast 3 months. The main trick is to have the dog completely mat free BEFORE you bath them and then use a conditioner on them in the second rinse, and rinse again. They come out like silk and no mats, and trimming and styling is a breeze. Sorry that you didn't enjoy her as much as you should have. As far as her being a hunting dog, I never heard of anyone saying that about poodles, but then a lot of people don't let their dogs off leash to run wild either. Poodles were my first love and I bred them many years ago, perfect solid chocolate mini's. They were smart as a whip and you could teach them anything. Perhaps you dog had some brain issues, cause it is not common for the breed to be dumb and untrainable.
Do you remember the show ''I Dream of Jeannie" she had a dog named Gin-Gin, that's what we named my first born male poodle and he was stunning and incredibly smart! -------Original Message------- From: [email protected] Date: 8/8/2012 5:35:52 PM To: [email protected] Subject: [Chihuahuas] Re:COYOTE STUFF It was hard on me to come home to no Miki... However, on the plus side, she was really a royal pain to trim (I couldn't afford to take her out!) and her feet shaving was just awful! She was small and it took me several hours to trim her... About every 3 weeks. It was hard, but again, when thinking of the sweat and pain of those trims and she hated every second of them... I think it helped that I wasn't home, so I didn't have hysterics or anything.. Just deeply saddened. Also, she was probably the dumbest dog I ever saw! She was nearly completely brainless. Plus, I was really tired of her bringing in her kills... Squirrels, mice, etc. She was like that cat and brought them in and ate them. You can see I'm still trying to talk myself into not missing her too much. Ceci is just so perfect! She helped immensely. And, she's not a dumb bell like Mikki was. Of course she hasn't found anything dead yet to roll in either! -------Original Message------- From: Raven Date: 8/8/2012 8:45:55 AM To: [email protected] Subject: Re: [Chihuahuas] Chi carrier >> lost her to a coyote I think while I was gone, hubby didn't watch her well enough.
