Honestly raw is a thousand times easier than cooking food. Maybe because not enough research has been put into it to find wholesome balanced meals. You would think that someone would jump on it since there has been so much talk about the food companies, and not everyone can handle the raw diet. <GIRLS&~1.PNG> -------Original Message------- From: Darlene Ashcraft Date: 8/22/2012 4:46:59 AM To: Chihuahuas Subject: Re: [Chihuahuas] Home made dog food {Disarmed} I'm interested in a raw diet for my Chi but I think I will start with cooked. I'm not sure how to keep raw meat on hand without it going bad. I don't own a car and don't get to the grocery more than once a week. I find it interesting that vets believe in Raw diets. I haven't seen anything saying vets are for cooked diets. He has been raw fed for over a year and does wonderful on it! No point in feeding plant matter to dogs, they cannot digest it, it simply passes through and lays on your grass. My raw fed Danes poo a tiny bit once a day, that's because they use what they eat. Even my vets are now pro-raw 8) Rebecca Bate Sent from my iPad On Aug 21, 2012, at 8:39 AM, "Darlene Ashcraft" <darlaashcr...@yahoo.com> wrote: I agree that dogs don't really digest veggies. Pumpkin is good for loose stools or constipation but IMO not necessary for everyday consumption. All the hype about adding supplements to your dogs food reminds me of the overhype of human taking supplements also. It is recommended because most humans don't eat right. Life is what happens while you are busy making plans. On Aug 20, 2012, Darlene Ashcraft <darlaashcr...@yahoo.com> wrote: I've heard that dogs do not need veggies. Not sure what is correct? Dogs are mostly carnivores and I have read that they don't digest cellulose which is what most vegetables are. Sometimes I think that when everything hit a head with the dog food companies to get rid of the filler foods, like wheat and corn and too much rice is not beneficial to a dog, that they had to come up with something they could add to the kibble, so veggies was it. I give my girls a little bit of broccoli, and carrots, and sometimes pieces of corn as a treat when I have it as part of my dinner, but just don't feel that it would be beneficial to them as part of a regular diet. I'm interested in doing so but most of the recipes I've found are for huge amounts and I want to make some food that is good for small breeds.
