1. check the values programmed for squelch, default values tend to be 40 or
more
I tend to use lowest value for squelch  slot 1 at 15, slot 2 25 ....

2. the mic sensitivity level adjustment by default is set for loud
environments; so talk close to the radio

antenna?  tested several, Hyperia 771 was the best
