I get a PC speaker beep in gedit too. If I sudo modprobe -r pcspkr, I hear nothing; if I turn off my external speakers I still hear it. But if I go to Sound Preferences (looks exactly like your screenshot), I hear totally different sounds. So I guess this isn't a bug in Chrome? Maybe it's Xfce-related.
