You are misinterpreting my comment. I am not advocating for app consistency over platform consistency. I am advocating for finding the right solution for users. In many cases, users have the same problem on multiple OSes and the right solution is the same everywhere. My suspicion is that this is true in this case. In other cases, there are definitive guidelines such as the ones you cite that mandate certain behaviors on particular OSes, which we should think carefully before defying.
