Some people have expressed interest in implementing a "translate this page" feature as an extension. This can be done as a content script today, but it requires heavy and tricky modification of the DOM which could introduce compat and performance problems.
Because of these problems, I'm exploring the idea of implementing a higher-level API exposed to the extension process.
