Hi Mark,
I'm interested in cleaning up how we invoke gyp when
building for use with valgrind. Right now it's a bit
of a hodgepodge, and it'd be nice if we could
use the variant method you introduced here

Is there doc for this yet?
I can't see how to invoke variants from the commandline, and
gyp --help
doesn't mention variants.
The syntax mentioned in the mailing list,
gclient runhooks --force -Dcoverage=1
fails with
gclient.py: error: no such option: -D
Also, will the makefile generator need to be
modified to support variants?
