FWIW, I have a fresh computer that *only* has VS2008 on it - until I
found this thread, GYP was generating 2005 files, resulting in a
conversion wizard when I attempted to open the solution. At this risk
of yet more complexity, maybe the opt-in should only be for machines
that have both?
