I thought it was a well written and thoughtful piece, and the
bookmarks star is not obvious for Firefox users as you have a load of
bookmark options in the right button click menu, on tabs as well. Is
this something that could be considered?

It also makes sense if you are at the bottom of a page and want to
bookmark it.

I think he may not have noticed the CTRL-B for showing hiding the
bookmarks bar.
