This quote appears in a letter from WSC to J. Moore Bayley, December 23rd 1901. WSC had apparently been much stirred by reading Seebohm Rowntree's "Poverty: A Study of Town Life" which he subsequently reviewed.
"I see little glory in an Empire which can rule the waves and is unable to flush its sewers". Quoted in Volume 3 of the Hillsdale "Churchill Documents", otherwise known as Volume 1 Companion Volume 3 of the Official Biography. Dear Churchillians, I am in need of a reference to a quotation, "there is very little glory in an Empire that can rule the waves but cannot flush her sewers." or something to that effect. Any assistance is greatly appreciated. Thank you, KTL -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "ChurchillChat" group.
