Colleagues, I'm sure we are all grateful for the distinguished military service of Jonathan Hayes and appreciate his remarks about the brutal nature of war. At the same time Michael McMenamin, both a veteran and a trial lawyer, has defended himself with an argument that is legally sound and shows that in producing the "Action This Day" column he follows good academic standards.
