Many thanks for the tip.
I do have Churchill Soldier somewhere in my shambolic study and will look it
up if and when I can lay my hands on it.
But as I wrote to David Freeman (who replied that he had no answer, either),
writings from a lesser author on WSC than his son Randolph might easily be
discounted as amateurish - but of course he knew what his father had written
in My Early Years, and he knew that his own figures were less flattering,
something that he would not have done lightly.
