I think that the world could and would accept Churchill's speaking style these days. He spoke NOT with bombast nor artificial sincerity. He appealed to our hopes and aspirations and projected an optimistic view of the future. He relied on the past but did not dwell in it.
I have been in state office for only six years, but due to the position that I have attained, I am frequently called upon to speak in forums, at conferences and even at commencements. I ALWAYS feature a Churchill quote, a reference or a comparison, I always write my own speeches and I always hear from audience members an approval of my Churchill references. Make no mistake, I am not nor do I pretend to be in Churchill's league. The only thing we have in common is that neither of us graduated in the top half of our public school class. But, we both did graduate in the half that made the top half possible, and for that someone should be thankful. Craig D.
