Unfortunately, this is simply a variation on the "What Would Churchill Do?" game that irritated the late Lady Soames so much. And it's a game that can be played in both directions. Personally, I contend that the reason Barack Obama would not have been elected President of the United States in 1860 is because the teleprompter had not yet been invented. A contention that is painfully facile and which misses the point by a breathtaking margin. Churchill would not become Prime Minister today not because of the way he spoke, not because of the way he dressed, not because of the company he kept, not because of the opinions he held, but because he is dead - and dead people tend to be a demographic that does not do well in elections.
