Dear all and especially Richard
I am presently in India and h just bought a book called An Era of Darkness by
Shashi Tharoor.
He is far from complimentary towards WSC. He talks about the " odious behaviour
of Winston Churchill ,who deliberately ordered the diversion of food from
starving Indian civilians to to well-supplied British soldiers " . He quotes
WSC as saying the famine their own fault as Indians were breeding like
rabbits. And why hasn't Gandhi died yet. HE appears to reply heavily on
Madhusree Mukerjee's account of the famine.
I have at the back of my mind that there was an article somewhere in Finest
Hour that dealt with this issue , and also a review of Mukerjee's book. Can any
one help me trac he reference so I can look it up upon my return.
Regards
Derek Greenwell
