China to Invite Iran to Shanghai Cooperation Organization Summit

China will invite Iran, India, Pakistan and Mongolia to the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Summit, which will be held in June.

China’s Foreign Ministry spokesman Li jianchao said that according to the agreement with the members of the organization, the leaders of monitoring countries will be invited to the summit.”

When asked whether or not Iran may hesitate in joining the summit because of the crisis over its nuclear program, the spokesman replied that Iran is a member of Shanghai Cooperation Organization, and Iranian representatives will be welcomed.”

China, Russia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan are members of organization, which was established in 1996. Mongolia, Iran, India, and Pakistan have the status of monitoring countries.
