I've now resolved the remaining problems with the IPv6 join and dcpromo. Thanks 
very much for your assistance!

The very slow schema replication was caused by Linux incorrectly using TCP 
segment offloading to the virtual adapter. I worked around this by bridging to 
eth0 and using ethtool to disable all ofloading on my adpater.
