RI regrets S Arabia`s action in Indonesia worker`s case

Jakarta (ANTARA News) - Indonesia regrets Saudi Arabia`s step in moving
Indonesian worker Tari from a hospital to Malad City`s Police Witness
Protection Center in Riyadh without prior notification to Indonesian Embassy in
Saudi Arabia, a spokesman said.

"Tari, one of the secured victims, has been moved from the hospital to Malad
City`s Police Witness Protection Center in Riyadh without notification to the
Indonesian embassy," a foreign ministry spokesman said here over the weekend.

Director for Indonesian Citizen Protection Affairs of the Ministry of Foreign
Affairs, Teguh Wardoyo, said that Tari was removed from the hospital because
she had recovered.

He said that the ministry of foreign affairs could not ascertain whether the
act of moving Tari was an act of `abduction` or not. The embassy had undertaken
consular access, given counseling and provided lawyers and legal assistance for
Tari.

"We have followed all required legal procedures in the country but the Saudi
government has not yet officially notified the Indonesian embassy over the
case, including the removal of Tari from the hospital to the witness protection
center," Wardoyo said.

The Indonesian embassy had sent diplomatic notes to the Saudi government three
times but it had yet to receive any response from them, he said.

He said that other victim, Rumini, was still in the hospital because she was
still under a recovery process from injuries she suffered from an alleged abuse.

"Two other dead victims, Susmiyati and Siti Tarwiyah had undergone autopsies
and their bodies had been kept in the morgue of Riyadh Medical Complex," he
said.

Wardoyo said that Indonesia continued to insist so that the Saudi government
would allow the two bodies to be repatriated immediately to Indonesia.

"Though, we have not yet received positive response from the local authorities,
we continue to insist that the bodies be returned to Indonesia soon," he
added.(*)
